Part Two | Encounters

If you’re here… that means you’ve already read Part One, if not, go back and read that first.

Dates: November 1-3, 2o24

Location: Hilton Costa Mesa | Fall GYP 2024

Anyway, so I messaged her on instagram and we end up chatting for a bit. Just some general interests with work and what she’s doing. She mentioned that she is a resident in Child Psychiatry at Loma Linda (yeah.. I know she’s super smart). I ask her if she is going to an upcoming convention and she happens to be going. Great! I have my MMO (Means, motive, and opportunity). In all seriousness, I was hoping to run into her there but never really planned on what to do if I did.

Anyway, the convention comes along and I do end up seeing her there. She’s standing in front of the check-in area so I go up and say hi. I default to talking about church topics when I can’t think of anything else to say but it seems like she just rolled with it. There ended up being a taco truck outside of the hotel so I suggested we go and grab something to eat with a few others. We waited in that line for maybe an hour or so but the time passed so quickly talking with her. I managed to snag her number, but it seemed like that was it.

I didn’t really see her much at the convention. We weren’t in any of the same groups or did any of the same activities together. Not that I didn’t want to, I just couldn’t think of an organic way to hang out with her.

As the convention came to a conclusion, I saw her as she was leaving. We said goodbye and that was it.

Or so I thought.

I summoned up the courage to text her but I actually didn’t hear back from her for 5 days. Feeling defeated, I figured she’s not interested, until I posted something on instagram which rekindled the conversation…
